The newest prize to enter the Sri Lankan literary scene
The newest prize to enter the Sri Lankan literary scene from 2024 onwards is the Vidarshana Literary Prize. The organizers hope to attract the necessary attention to the work of veteran and new writers alike before the manuscript becomes a published book, and to bring new energy to the writer-reader dynamism in this country with the Vidarshana Prize.

What To Expect
From 2026 onwards, the Vidarshana Literary Prize enters a new chapter by opening its platform to published works alongside manuscripts. With this expansion, the Prize continues to grow in both scope and diversity. In line with a broader national vision, Tamil literary works have also been included from this year onward.
Submissions for published books closed on 31 January, while manuscript entries were accepted until 31 March. All submitted works have now been handed over to the panel of judges and are currently under review. The longlists and shortlists will be announced in due course.

Maintaining high publication standards, Vidarshana began its journey by introducing the Sinhala readership to global literary trends and sees its mission as enabling the publication of progressive and avant-garde work in Sinhala literature. Today, Vidarshana has expanded its publishing portfolio to include titles on a diverse range of topics, including academic research publications an area that is particularly underserved in Sinhala publishing.
The outcome of several years of planning, the Vidarshana Literary Prize, offered for the first time in 2024, aims to nurture the future growth of Sri Lankan publishing. Vidarshana Publishers' involvement in the Vidarshana Literary Prize is limited to organizing, financing and publicizing of the literary prize.
