Vidarshana Literary Prize 2024 Marks a Milestone Moment in Sri Lankan Literature
The Vidarshana Literary Prize 2024, the inaugural edition of the national literary award organized by Vidarshana Publishers, was successfully held in August 2024 at Waters Edge, Battaramulla.
The Vidarshana Literary Prize was introduced to the Sri Lankan literary arena with a clear and distinctive vision: to recognize and encourage literary excellence at the manuscript stage, prior to publication. While manuscript-based literary evaluations have existed before, this was the first time such an initiative was formally established as the Vidarshana Literary Prize, creating a structured and credible national platform for unpublished creative works.
The primary aim of the award is to identify promising literary voices and provide recognition before a book reaches print, supporting writers at a critical stage of their creative journey and strengthening the foundation of future Sri Lankan literature.
For the 2024 edition, unpublished manuscripts were invited and evaluated by an independent jury board, following a rigorous and transparent assessment process.
